If your contract is with a carrier in an EU or EEA country, “roam like at home” already covers Denmark at no surcharge, subject to your operator’s fair-use policy — you probably do not need to buy anything. The fair-use number, stated openly
Denmark Unlimited allows 5 GB per day at full speed, then continues at 512 Kbps until the next day resets. Five gigabytes is a heavy travel day — maps, messaging, social media and a few videos rarely come close. At the reduced speed maps, messaging, tickets and email still work; HD video does not.
Which networks you actually connect to
The Denmark eSIM roams on TDC (5G) and 3 (5G), switching to whichever is stronger. TDC operates the country’s most extensive network, and between the two you get essentially full national coverage: Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, the whole of Zealand and Funen, Jutland end to end, and the ferry ports for Bornholm.
Realistic gaps are few and small: the middle of the longer ferry crossings, some of the west-coast dune areas, and the odd stretch of the North Sea coast. Denmark is one of the easiest coverage stories in Europe.
Two borders this plan does NOT cross
The Øresund bridge to Malmö puts you in Sweden — a Danish plan stops there. And more surprisingly: the Faroe Islands and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark but are separate telecom territories with their own networks. A Danish eSIM does not cover either; both need their own plan. If your itinerary includes them, check before you fly rather than on arrival.
The apps that make Denmark easy
Rejseplanen is the national journey planner and covers every train, bus, metro and ferry in the country — including the ones that only run twice a day in west Jutland. DOT Tickets sells Copenhagen-area transport tickets. And if you rent a bike, which you should, Google Maps’ cycling directions in Denmark are excellent because the infrastructure is genuinely separate from the roads.
One practical note: Denmark uses the krone, not the euro, and card terminals will offer to bill you in your home currency. Decline and pay in DKK — the terminal’s conversion rate is consistently worse than your bank’s.
The honest caveat: your internet exits in France or the Netherlands
Like most travel eSIMs, this one is home-routed. Your phone attaches to a Danish mast, but your traffic reaches the public internet through a gateway in France or the Netherlands. Websites see a French or Dutch address, so anything geo-locked to Danish — DRTV and some Danish banking portals — may refuse.
