The fair-use number, stated openly
Moldova Unlimited allows 5 GB per day at full speed, then continues at 512 Kbps until the next day resets. Five gigabytes is a heavy travel day — maps, messaging, social media and a few videos rarely come close. At the reduced speed maps, messaging, tickets and email still work; HD video does not.
Which network you connect to
The Moldova eSIM roams on Orange (5G) — a single network, and the largest operator in the country. Coverage is strong across Chișinău, Bălți and Cahul, and reliable through the wine regions at Cricova and Mileștii Mici, at Orheiul Vechi and along the main roads to the Romanian border crossings.
The thin spots are the small villages in the north and the back roads through Codru forest — normal rural gaps rather than anything unusual.
Transnistria runs its own network
The strip east of the Dniester — Transnistria, with its capital at Tiraspol — is not administered by Chișinău and operates its own mobile network rather than Orange or Moldcell. A Moldovan eSIM will not work there. Travellers do cross for the day, usually to Tiraspol or Bender, and the crossing has its own formalities; whatever else you plan for that trip, plan for having no data on our plan while you are on that side. The apps worth having
Yandex Go and Bolt both operate in Chișinău and are extremely cheap. Public transport is minibuses — rutiere — which are not indexed by any app worth trusting; you ask, or you take a taxi for two dollars. For the wine cellars, Cricova and Mileștii Mici both require booking ahead, and both are done online.
Moldova uses the leu. Cards are widely accepted in Chișinău and much less so outside it, so carry some cash for the countryside.
The honest caveat: your internet exits in France or the Netherlands
