Traveller's guide

Staying connected in Everest Base Camp

A weak connection does not just feel slow — it wastes your plan. Pages half-load and reload, uploads restart, apps retry in the background. Sitting on a solid network is part of what makes a fixed plan last the whole trip.

In Everest Base Camp the biggest single draw is Namche Bazaar and the larger villages, where trekkers upload a week of photos in one evening. Download the offline map before you fly and let the eSIM handle live traffic only.

Coverage on the Everest trail exists in Namche and some villages and disappears above them — this is a plan for Kathmandu and the lower trail, and honest about it.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Will the Everest Base Camp eSIM work on my phone?
Any eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked handset — iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Pixel 3 and newer. Dial *#06#; an EID number means yes.
How fast is the data in Everest Base Camp?
4G where the local network provides it. Speed varies by area and time of day, as it does for everyone on the same network.
Do I need a passport or registration?
No. That requirement applies to physical SIM cards bought locally, not to this eSIM.
When does my plan start?
On the first connection to a local network — when you switch off flight mode at KTM / LUA. Not when you pay.
What happens when my data runs out?
Your connection simply pauses — no surprise bills, ever. To keep going, buy another package for the same destination. If that happens often, the unlimited plan is the cheaper answer.
Can I add data to an eSIM I already have?
Not on a data package — the amount of data is fixed, so nothing is added to an eSIM that is already running. If you need more, another package for the same destination arrives by email and installs alongside the eSIM you already have. Our unlimited plans work differently: those can be extended by extra days while they are still active.
Can I keep my normal number for calls and texts?
Yes. Keep the home line active for SMS codes with its data off, and let the eSIM carry the data.
Can I use it as a mobile hotspot in Everest Base Camp?
Yes. Bear in mind a second device draws from the same plan.
Does it work outside Everest Base Camp?
Yes — it is a Nepal-wide plan.
Staying longer than a week?
Unlimited is billed per day and the daily rate falls the longer you stay — same networks, no counting.
