Network & Coverage

Stay connected across every corner of Kabul

Your eSIM runs on Roshan across Kabul and on through Afghanistan.

Roshan

4G coverage across Kabul and on through Afghanistan.

Where you will use it

the centrethe diplomatic quarterthe road to Bagramthe routes out of the city

Afghanistan has no tourism to speak of and arrivals are aid workers, journalists or the diaspora. The connection is about being reachable, nothing else.

Does the Kabul eSIM work outside the city?+

Yes, it is an Afghanistan-wide plan. This page exists because people search for the city, not the country.

Can I share it as a hotspot in Kabul?+

Yes. Tethering is allowed, which is what makes one unlimited line practical for a couple or a family moving around together. Keep in mind that hotspot traffic counts towards the daily full-speed allowance. Shared tablets and laptops get through it faster than one phone. The exact daily figure for every destination is on our fair use page.

How it works

Connected in
3 simple steps

Before you fly

Scan the QR code over Wi-Fi. About a minute.

On landing at KBL

Turn off flight mode. The line registers by itself.

Turn on data roaming

The step most travellers miss. It is not roaming in the billing sense; it is how the phone lets the eSIM use a foreign network.

✈️

Ready before you land

A pre-arranged pickup, because there is no other way visitors arrive here, and your eSIM is already working when you get there.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about your Kabul eSIM

Is the data truly unlimited?+

There is a fair use policy, as with every unlimited plan on the market. We publish the details on our fair use page rather than bury them, so you can check before you buy.

When does my Kabul eSIM activate?+

On its first connection to a local network, in practice when you switch off flight mode at KBL. Not when you pay.

Can I buy it weeks before the trip?+

Yes. It stays dormant until it first connects, so buying it together with the flight is fine.

Should I buy a SIM card at the airport instead?+

You can, but it means queueing after a flight and paying whatever the counter asks. An eSIM bought beforehand is already working before you reach passport control.

Which devices are compatible?+

Any eSIM-capable handset: iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung Galaxy, Pixel 3 and newer. Dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, you are good to go.

Can I extend it if I stay longer?+

Often yes. While the eSIM is still active, open your personal eSIM page (the link is in your delivery email) and you will see there whether extra days can be added to your plan. If they can't, another eSIM for the same destination arrives by email and installs alongside the one you already have.

Only staying a few days?

A short trip is usually cheaper on a fixed data plan. Same networks, one price for the trip.
