Apple states that eSIM requires an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later. Every eSIM-capable iPhone shows an EID in Settings > General > About (scroll down). Regional exceptions per Apple: in China mainland only iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM; in Hong Kong and Macao many models are sold as Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards and no eSIM (there, eSIM is available on iPhone 17e, 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, Air, 16e, 13 mini, 12 mini and iPhone SE 2nd generation and later).

Apple: you can store 8 or more eSIMs on an iPhone and swap which stored eSIMs are active in Settings. Two eSIMs can be active at the same time on supported models: Apple lists Dual eSIM (two eSIMs) for iPhone 13 models and later; earlier eSIM iPhones use one physical SIM plus one eSIM. So a travel eSIM can run alongside your home line.

Apple lists iPhone 14, 15, 16 and 16e models purchased in the United States, and iPhone 17-family models purchased in the US, US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Guam, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman, as eSIM only. These phones still store 8 or more eSIMs and can keep two active, so a travel eSIM is added as a second eSIM next to your home eSIM. Apple also notes you cannot use an eSIM from a China mainland carrier on a device purchased outside China mainland.

Apple: unlocking means you can use the iPhone with different carriers, and only your carrier can unlock it. To check, open Settings > General > About. If Carrier Lock shows 'No SIM restrictions', the iPhone is unlocked; otherwise contact your carrier. Rakuten Mobile's eSIM page likewise states that a device that is not SIM-unlocked requires SIM unlocking before its eSIM can be used.

Samsung publishes a list of Galaxy devices that support eSIM (Galaxy S20 series and later, Z Fold/Flip series, S23/S24/S25 FE, selected A-series such as A56/A55, and A54/A35/A36 only in Europe, North America and Korea, plus cellular Tab S9/S10/S11 models). Samsung adds two caveats: 'Depending on the country of origin, eSIM may not be supported even if your device is listed', and Wi-Fi-only tablets have no eSIM. On the phone, Samsung's path is Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Samsung Canada states the Galaxy S20 FE does not support eSIM, and Samsung US lists S21 FE, A14 5G, A15 5G, A53 5G and several other A-series models as dual physical SIM devices.

Google: 'Pixel 4 and later: All phones work with eSIM.' Exceptions for older models: Pixel 3a phones bought with Verizon service or in Japan do not work with eSIM; Pixel 3 phones bought from US or Canadian carriers other than Sprint and Google Fi, or bought in Australia, Taiwan or Japan, do not; Pixel 2 only works with eSIM if bought with Google Fi; the 2016 Pixel does not support eSIM at all. Pixel 7 and later can run two eSIM profiles at once. In the US, Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL cannot use a physical SIM (eSIM only).

Apple: to set up an eSIM your iPhone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network or hotspot; in some countries and regions, eSIM-only iPhone models can activate without Wi-Fi. Fairphone advises connecting to a stable Wi-Fi network before scanning the QR code so the eSIM profile downloads without interruption.

Sony's help guides list eSIM configuration only for the EU model codes ending in -54 (for example Xperia 1 VII XQ-FS54, Xperia 10 VI XQ-ES54); the -62/-72 model codes of the same phones do not have an eSIM section. Sony UK states that some non-EU Xperia phones have different SIM configurations or may not support an eSIM, that up to 10 eSIMs can be stored, and that only one eSIM can be active at a time. Check your model code under Settings or on the box.

Not in the usual way. Apple requires the Apple Watch to use the same carrier as the paired iPhone and an eligible cellular plan from that carrier. Samsung states that only LTE Galaxy Watch models contain an eSIM and that the mobile provider must explicitly offer smartwatch eSIM plans (shared-number or separate-number plans). Travel data eSIMs are made for phones and cellular tablets.

It depends on the model and region, so check the manufacturer page for your exact model. Nothing: Phone (3) supports eSIM; Phone (3a), (3a) Pro, (3a) Lite, (4a), (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro support eSIM only in versions sold in Japan; Phone (1), (2), (2a), (2a) Plus and CMF Phone 1 do not. Xiaomi: Xiaomi 15, 15 Ultra, 15T, 15T Pro, 14T, 14T Pro, 17 Ultra, POCO X7 and Redmi Note 14 Pro/Pro+ 5G support eSIM, while Redmi Note 14, Note 14 5G, Note 11 Pro+ 5G and POCO F7 do not; Xiaomi notes eSIM availability varies by region. OnePlus spec sheets list eSIM for OnePlus 11, 12, 13, 13s and 15, but 'Not supported' for OnePlus 12R and 'No' for Nord 5.
